Office of Government Commerce (OGC)
This is where it all started … well, actually it started with the CCTA but that’s history. The OGC owns the copyright to the IT Infrastructure Library, but has engaged the IT Service Management Forum (itSMF), a non-profit end user’s group to manage and extend ITIL®. This is a good first site if you are looking for the basic information about ITSM and ITIL®.

IT Service Management Forum - itSMF
The itSMF bills itself as “The only truly Independent and internationally recognized forum for IT Service Management Professionals worldwide.” The OCG has engaged the itSMF to maintain and extend the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL®), so the organization exerts significant influence over the content of the ITSM books, and the two examination bodies. It’s a good organization to belong to, either as an individual or with a corporate membership. The other links are to the US and Canadian chapters. The itSMF holds a “user’s” (not a vendor) conference every year where practitioners or those people looking for information about ITSM best practices can attend and share information.

Information Systems Examination Board (ISEB)
The ISEB is part of the British Computer Society and provides “…industry recognized qualification that measure competence, ability and performance in many areas of IS, with the aim of raising industry standards, promoting career development and providing competitive edge for employers.” In short they are the folks that provide the certification exams for all levels of IT Service Management.

EXIN
EXIN (Examination Institute for Information Science) is another IT examination provider. It establishes educational requirements, and develops organizational examination in Information Technology. From its website, “EXIN is well-known worldwide for its ITIL certificates in IT Service Management. With examinations like ITIL, ISPL, CMM, ASL and DSDM, EXIN plays an important role in the development of international qualification standards.”

Loyalist (North American EXIN exams)
From the Loyalist website, “As EXIN's North American academic partner, Loyalist College manages the maintenance, translation, marking and awarding of ITIL certificates in Canada and the United States of America. Loyalist facilitates the accreditation process and auditing of Accredited Training Organizations to ensure the continuity and quality of the programs being delivered. Loyalist College does not provide ITIL training. Building on its academics and corporate training experience, Loyalist College is able to provide an independent and objective assessment service no matter where students have followed their studies.”
